These days, you don’t need to have a weight bench that takes up space in order to get a full upper body workout. There are all kinds of exercises, weight training included, that you can do while using an exercise ball. These are great things to have because, unlike weight benches, they can be easily stored out of the way when you are not using them. And, not only will you get the upper body workout you are looking for, you are also going to work your legs and abdominal muscles and gain more balance.
There are many different exercises that you can do with an exercise ball that will provide you with a full upper body workout. Some of these exercises include the chest press, the push-up and the overhead press.
Chest Press – When doing this exercise, the only part of your body that touches the ball is your head and neck. Lie back, with your head and neck resting on the ball, and bend your knees. This will contract your abs, giving you more of a workout. Hold your weights straight out in front of you, with your elbows slightly bent, and raise your arms slowly forward and back. Make sure that the weights do not touch when you bring them forward.
Push-Ups – If you really want to get the most out of push-ups, do them on an exercise ball. Instead of having your feet on the floor, have them on the ball, so your legs are in the air. Then do your push-ups as you normally would, keeping your abs contracted.
Overhead Press – This is probably one of the easiest upper body exercises to do while on an exercise ball because it doesn’t require as much balance as the others. All you have to do is sit on the ball with your feet flat on the floor. Hold weights in your hands, and begin with your elbows bent so that the weights are next to your shoulders. Raise your arms slowly, and lift the weights with your palms facing each other. Lower the weights, and repeat.
These are just a few of the upper body exercises you can do with an exercise ball. Using the ball will greatly increase the effectiveness of your workouts, and you will find that there is much more you can do than just upper body workouts.
