Personal Yearly Theme for 2013 – Success

Grand Canyon overlook

It is that time again… Time to figure out my person intention and focus for the year.

Let me tell you a little what the one word theme is… it is the value or intention that you want to make front and center in your life.  It is the value/intention you will use to make every decision in the next year.

The first year (2009) that I decided to create a theme,  I used “Holistic“, I used this year to “clean up” many areas of my life.  I moved to create a new lifestyle, I focused on my both my mental and physical health.

The second year (2010), I used “Level-up” as my theme, I used this to again make significant changes in my life, re-aligning my business to fit my vision for my future, changing names and clarifying the focus.  I trained for and competed in my first triathlon.

The third year (2011) I used “Leadership” I  wanted to spend more time, impacting more people. I wanted to create a legacy.  I did this, not exactly the way that I had thought when I decided to take on this theme.  Oh but I most certainly did it.

Last year (2012) I used two words “Wealth & Health” My intention was to spend the year fixing my problems.  Oh My Gosh, were those the incorrect words to use.  Health: That is literally what I did all year round.  I spend more time in hospital and recovering from procedures then I ever have in my entire life.   Everything is fixed which is awesome, but it kept interfering with my momentum.  I would just get started something and another this or that. Wealth: Again I was literally moving from fire to fire, I was always able to resolve the situation, but a little less stress would have been nice.

SO this year I am being very very specific with my word and I am making sure that my intention is very very clear.

This year I am selecting “Success” and my intention is to easily complete all the goals I set for the year, in all areas of my life.   This year I am feeling more inclined to set very specific goals around creating success rather than having my word be an intangible yet powerful value.   This year it is a strong action oriented word, that has power just with saying it.  I feel empowered, inspired and activated by my theme.

Here is how you can find your word for the year:

Review or re-evaluate your core values to ensure you are coming from a place of purpose and alignment.
Step 1. Brainstorm words, ideas, thoughts. Free write anything that comes to mind.
Step 2. Ask yourself if any of these words speak to you, if you can feel them.
Step 3. Review all the words you have written, review the meanings of each of the words.
Step 4. Meditate and pray, allow the words speak to you.

Let you word bring you into a higher vibration, let your word empower you, let your word motivate you toward your ideal year.

I would love to hear what your words/ themes are, Leave a comment below

  1. I’d like to take you up on your challenge. I think I’ll choose the word NOURISH. This is in line with my goals to work only with clients I like to work with-even if it means just having a small number of clients, to work on pursuing my personal projects, and to really give time for daily exercise to be fit and healthy. Do you think it’s the right word? 🙂

  2. Hi Lori,

I’m sorry that last year’s experience with your chosen words was so fraught. It’s a useful reminder of the power of choosing a theme for the year, and that it’s not something to be taken likely. It makes me think that we need to be doing more than just picking a word at the end of December, but should be revisting it through the year and taking great care with how we bring it into our lives so that we get the best possible results.

I like your 4 steps to choosing a word in an intentional spirit and hope that you have a satisfying and successful year in 2013. My word for 2013 is ‘engagement’, it pretty much chose itself over the last few months. It’s always the first word that comes to mind when I think about the exercise, and always just feels like the right thing for me to focus on.

    1. Thanks Dave. It was a great learning experience. Weird and strange and fun. I agree, I think that is something I didn’t do much of last year. I picked my theme and let the world unfold with out really keeping an eye on it, I might have reframed it sooner. I am going to make more of an effort this year to review it more often probably quarterly.

I like “engagement” and it is so true that the word finds you!

  3. Lori, here’s wishing you less painful, more carefree and successful 2013! I’m going to use your steps to come up with my word, but I have to noodle on it for a bit first.

  4. I like the simple, powerful concept of using a one-word theme. It’s going to take some thought for me to come up with one. You have to choose carefully if you only get one.

Lori, I hope that 2013 is a stellar year for you. Here’s to your success!

  5. Oooh, that is scary how your words backfired on you a bit last year! But, honestly, you still amazed me with all you were able to manifest last year! It tells me that you will surely live into your word for 2013 this year! I’d wish you luck, but I don’t think you need it!

I’m still playing around with my word(s) for 2013. Last year I chose 3. And I may do this again this year. I picked the word ‘Create’ for this year at the end of the year, but I think I still need to meditate and play on this. Other words I’m feeling drawn to are “Ease” and “flourish” Plus several more! I’ll keep you posted!

    1. It never surprises me when I get exactly what I ask for… but I definitely overlooked the emotions that were driving me last year and I feel that I have broken through those more this year. This year is ass Kicking time!

You will know when you have the right word… it will feel the most comforting

  6. We have to be so very careful of the words we choose. As they say ‘what we put out there comes back to us’. Even if we have good intentions with our words, they sometimes bite us.

I love the idea of a theme, I’ve never thought of this and will work on my 2013 theme. Thanks

  7. Triathlon? Dang women, you really leveled-up, like crazy. Nice going!

I’m too much of a spaz to pick a word – I know if I did, I’d just change it in a few months. But if I had to pick one overlying theme… it would be to establish independence – monetary independence, such that I can live wherever I want, spirit independence, such that I can think, work, and play without being encumbered by my physical body, and emotional independence, finally moving on from past attachments.

  8. I love Hawaii. I had the great fortune to travel to many parts of the world but now cannot for other reasons. But what a refreshing and spiritual experience for whomever can do this.
