It has been about 3 months since the last time I wrote about my change to Zen to Done methodology of productivity and time management. I want to just do a quick review and see what concepts have stuck and how I feel it is working for me.
A quick run down of the 10 Habits:
- Simple Trusted System
- Find you Passion
Let’s get started…
Collect: This is going well, I almost always have a pencil and paper with me. I most often use this at my home office.
Process: This I have always done – working many years as a manager meant get organized fast or you can’t stay on top of things. I create rules, folders etc to deal with email. I prefer a zero count inbox.
Plan: I love using the online software Lifetick, it has a goal orientated planning and task management system that JUST works for me. Goals are based on the SMART methodology and you can create tasks with deadlines, journal entries, notes, recurring tasks, etc.
Do: I am learning this one, I must admit this has been the hardest for me. I didn’t really think that learning to focus on ONE task at a time would be so hard. I definitely notice how often I fall back into multitasks. I believe this is a step in the right direction.
Simple Trusted System: As I mentioned Lifetick is my main goal based task list. I use my calendar for daily/weekly recurring administrative tasks and personal appointments. I write out my MIT’s for the day/week in my notebook. I find this works the best for me.
Organize: Loving this part! I am just reorganized my office over the weekend to create better use of space and energy.
Review: Always do this, weekly/monthly/quaterly, I like to look at what I have completed and what still needs to be done, this way I can easily tweak and adjust to move forward.
Simplify: I actually can’t say that I have reduced tasks 🙂 But I am trying very hard to prioritize the tasks that so I am only working on a few at a time. More focus on less tasks, should lead to getting more done!
Routine: I do love having a routine, this has not worked out too well for me lately with some traveling that I have been doing, but I prefer living that way!
Over all I feel that I have really got down deep into this process and I am able to use it on a daily bases.
I very much enjoy learning from a teacher such as Leo, he really loves what he writes. I look forward to learning more along the way.
